It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The holidays are here…

Of course, I’m speaking of my favorite food holidays: National Cupcake Day on December 15 and National Chocolate-Covered Anything Day on December 16.

In reality, we know I celebrate both throughout the year. Still, who am I to ignore a reason to take part again?

Since I pre-celebrated the chocolate holiday last week, my focus was cupcake day. There was one flavor I’d been meaning to try all yearlong, but had never found the time. The occasion seemed perfect.

So I checked the website of longtime favorite, Suite 106 Cupcakery in Rancho Cucamonga, California to gather details for my objective – their Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake.

Once offered now and then, due to customer demand, it was now available on Fridays. No wonder, their Cupcake Wars winning Red Velvet cupcake is filled with homemade New York cheesecake.

Knowing the importance of this mission, I planned an earlier arrival. Failure was unacceptable.

Unfortunately, stormy weather did cause some delay. As I parked in front of the Suite 106 shop, I hoped the rain kept enough customers away from my precious prize. 

It did.

Opening the door, my eyes found the beautiful Red Velvet Cheesecake cupcakes. Adorned in white sprinkles and trimmed with red frosting, each was like a lovely present.

I purchased two, one for that day and another for the cupcake holiday.

Back at home, with fork and plate at the ready, I unwrapped a cupcake. Loose graham cracker crumbs dribbled from the liner. The rest adhered to the cupcake’s bottom.

I took my first mouthful. The moist cake was what Red Velvet should be. There was a light cocoa flavor and influence of buttermilk. It paired well with the smooth, cream cheese frosting with flecks of vanilla bean.

Because I savored each morsel, it took a couple more attempts to reach the cupcake’s center. But it was worth the wait.

Suite 106 is not only generous with frosting, they’re generous with fillings as well. The middle was stuffed.

Velvety, New York cheesecake invited me to take bigger bites; creating a combination of frosting, cheesecake, cupcake, and graham cracker crust!


After my last taste, I gulped a glass of milk and beamed. Grateful I get to relive the experience again. 

It is a special time of year and Suite 106 just made it better for this Frosting Fanatic.
